There are two important military theorists from the French Revolution. Antoine-Henri Jomini, and Carl von Clausewitz both are the brightest military thinkers of their time. The Art of War is the best military document of the time. Jomini’s ideas and theories regarding statesmanship and its relationship to war, strategy, grand tactics, logistics, and engineering characterize the nature of WWI better than Clausewitz when viewed through the operational art of WWI.
Jomini, though not a statesman understood the political nature of his profession. Jomini understood the seriousness of going to war. Jomini’s military art and tactics more closely resemble the nature of war during WWI. Jomini’s grand tactics depict the nature of WWI better the than the tactics of Clausewitz.
Logistics is the movements of armies and all items associated with the movement of Armies. Logistics is also the preparation of all the material necessary for setting the army in motion. Logistics is the creation of the orders as well as plans of attack. It is the arranging of the artillery, security of military posts, and all other facilities under the militaries care and protection.
The directing and ordering of reconnaissance of any kind and procuring of goods and resources is also logistics. Logistics uses human assets and cyber warfare assets to extract information from hostile sources and enemy forces. It arranges the orders of men and equipment, so that all may move in an orderly fashion in and around the battle space.
The Art of War meticulously details the importance of logistics. Jomini’s theory regarding logistics is far superior to Clausewitz theory and tactics. Jomini makes it clear that without logistics you cannot fight and win today’s
