Suzanne collins the author of the novel Mockingjay generates nearly constant suspense throughout, this constant suspense it driven by the various conflicts that Katniss Everdeen is faced with, although these conflicts have negative impacts they help keep Katniss on track and motivated to achieve her goals. Many characters change for the better or worse due to certain events and aftermaths that carry along with them. Katniss being the main character who has to face and deal with many problems. This puts Katniss in a devastated state in which she has hard times trying to remember what had happened on the day that had put her in shock and had Peeta captured by president snow, Katniss puts all the blame on herself which only worsens her condition. To help with herself she constantly says “My name is Katniss Everdeen. I am 17 years old. My home is district 12. I was in the hunger games. I escaped. The capitol hates me. Peeta was taken prisoner. He is thought to be dead, most likely he is dead. It is probably best if he is dead(Pg9). Katniss begins to doubt herself and her action in hope to not put her loved ones in danger. This becomes an issue for president Coin who is trying to help her and motivate her to become the mockingjay, she denies the request to become the mockingjay but eventually overcomes this tragedy and becomes the one she was expected to be. Katniss also struggles with the fact that she could not have saved all the people from the bombing that had taken place after the hunger games which was caused by the outraged in capital. In this book Katniss was fighting against the capitol alongside the rebels who wanted to see the capitol fall. In this book and previous ones, katniss has shown various rebellious acts, one of them being is when katniss and peeta threatened to eat poisonous berries if they were both unable to win. This challenging act was the starting point of the conflict between katniss and the capitol. “You’re in trouble. word is the capitol’s furious about you showing them up. The one thing they can't stand is being laughed at and they’re the joke of panem.” Katniss was warned after taking the role as the mockingjay because she was once again challenging the system. The rebels were on the edge of giving up almost losing motives to keep fighting until Katniss became the face of the rebels and gave them hope once again to take down the capitol. This, outraged the capitol and they would do anything to stop her. Katniss was considered a strong person or at least she was in front of cameras. “as a rebel i thought id get to look more like myself, but it seem a televised has her own standards to live up to.” To put fear in the capitol katniss has to look strong, this is done by staged broadcasts and make up.
