Then the Virgin tells Antonio that she will also only forgive both and not only Narciso (Anaya 173). Antonio never bothered to see Tenorio in a good light and was thus always critical of him. His good half wanted Narciso forgiven but overlooked that in being critical of Tenorio he forgot that wishing forgiveness of all means all the people. In an earlier part of the book, Antonio says “It is not easy to forgive men like Tenorio” (Anaya 138). Antonio was once again being critical just showing that he is also human and he is like the God and Virgin in that he is composed of a caring and critical personality.
Antonio, a character from Bless Me, Ultima written by Rudolfo Anaya, witnesses the demise of Lupito, as a six year old this causes him to mature. A reason that leads to him becoming mature is when Lupito is dying Antonio is unable to help him. Lupito is near the river bank, and above him are the men who plan to finish him. Lupito mutters, “Bless me─” (22). When Antonio fails, he believes he cannot be a priest, like his mother wishes.
How? I had seen Lupito murdered… I had seen Ultima’s cure… I had seen the men come to hang her… I had seen the awful fight just now (Anaya 165)…” Antonio admits that he cannot tell if he is still clinging on to his innocence or if it has already diminished. He believes that Ultima’s cure may have saved him from losing it, but seems to wonder if the awful things he has witnessed is too much to bare, even with the curse.
Antonio begged God to forgive Andrew (Antonio’s brother) “Your brother has sinned with the whores, and so I condemn him to hell for eternity!”(Pg.173). Antonio’s demeanor portrayed confusion and fear of why he is the chosen one to save his brothers when he is hopeful for their saving of him. “Oh, I cried, forgive me Lord! I have sinned, I have sinned exceedingly in thought, word, and deed.
When Narciso died, Ultima showed Antonio the harsh reality that comes with every human life. "Do not worry about Tenorio's threats, he has no manly strength to carry them out. He murdered Narciso because he ambushed him in cold blood, but he will not find me easy to ambush-" (189). Antonio understood her words and learned to avoid Tenorio no matter the struggle he went through. He never went against her words because he her words had powerful meaning behind them was pure truth.
In the first quote, Antonio is told that you shouldn't always expect to be forgiven. There are rules to follow and if you break them you are punished. However his view on that changes when Ultima tells him if you were truly

Oscar Pistorius, an inspiration to most, charged with the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. On February 14, 2013, Pistorius shot Steenkamp four times through their washroom door. Pistorius was arrested for the murder of Reeva Steenkamp. After a lengthy trial Pistorius was not found guilty of murder but culpable homicide. Pistorius was sentenced to 5 years behind bars, but may only serve one sixth of his sentence in prison, which would be 10 months, and spend the rest of his sentencing under house arrest.
Antonio realizes here that Ultima was looking after him and knew what he was doing, even when his own parents did not. Additionally, Antonio makes the first connection between the owl and Ultima, where he realizes that the owl was watching him and Ultima knew what he was doing and what he witnessed as if she was there herself. After Antonio finally gets home after the play, he get extremely sick, “And always Ultima was near me, caring for every turn I made in the progress of that hideous journey" (172). We learn that throughout Antonio’s hardest time Ultima is there watching over him, and taking care of him. This is very similar to how the owl watches over Antonio when he is away from the house in potentially dangerous situations.
Antonio watches as a priest defiles and altar by pouring pigeon blood on it, Cico defiles the river by spearing the golden carp, and Tenorio murders Ultima by killing her “night-spirit.’ Antonio must learn to accept that violence brings change, and in fact, that change is a kind of violence. This supports the novel’s argument that the transition into adulthood requires a person to develop the kind of faith that can accept doubt, contradiction, and loss in the absence of absolute answers. Ultima reiterates the novel’s concern with violence as a part of change when, before Antonio leaves, she advises him that he must learn to accept change and make it a part of his strength. Antonio begins to understand the spiritual value that Ultima places on harmony.
Who killed romeo and juliet?? I think romeo and juliet were killed by themselves and the time period they consisted in. With this said most would think that their parents killed them or the feud. But did they really just played a part but weren't the cause, the cause was themselves.
Upon asking his father for his opinion on why there is evil in the world Gabriel responds “I think most of the things we call evil are not evil at all; it is just that we don't understand those things and so we call them evil.” (248). The contrasting outlooks of right and wrong reveal the gray areas that exist in life forcing Antonio to reckon with the limitations of absolute truths in morality. An instance is when the children see Florence’s dissent towards the Catholic Church and urge Antonio who was acting as the priest to "Make him kneel and we'll all beat him," Ernie suggested.
Maria puts pressure on Antonio to be a priest while Antonio feels an inner peace when he's with Ultima but this does come with a crucial realization. It could be argued that by having glimpses of Ultimas lifestyle Antonio has realized he has been within sin and that he lost his innocence a long time ago. His mind and beliefs are not confined to the thought of religion as they used to. This all ties with the idea of wisdom being an interpretation of experiences; the idea of being ascertained to sin and realizing he was no longer innocent made Antonios struggle between secular and spiritual thoughts even more gargantuan than it already was. A harbinger of Ultimas role in a relentless
Rather than focusing on the typical conflicts of a detective novels, such as whom and why, he focused on comparing the nature of people in the community at the time, to the nature of animals. He also uses animal imagery in order to foreshadow the course of events, such as the way in which Santiago would be killed, the betrayal of the community and the reason, which was his sexual attraction with women. However, although the novel is focused on comparing characters to animals, he does make one statement which creates a large differentiation between the two. “No matter how much I scrubbed with soap and rags I couldn’t get rid of the smell” (79). Here an important human trait becomes visible, and it is the trait of guilt.
During the storm, Antonio says “Hang, cur, hang, you whoreson, insolent noisemaker, we are less afraid to be drowned than thou art”(1.1.38-39) which expresses his rude and discourteous character traits as he is cursing the boatswain. His vulgar language demonstrates the power he possesses and also when he says the boatswain is more afraid of dying than he is, it shows how he is more superior than the boatswain, who is in charge of the ship. Throughout the act, Antonio is still seen to be cursing the boatswain advising him to die. Gonzalo’s lines show his hope and belief in not drowning as he thinks the boatswain must become a criminal and his destiny is to live long and die from being hung. The rope that hangs him will ensure that the people
