This shows Macbeth’s desire to become king, even though he already has a high ranking position in the land. He is not content with he has and desires an even higher position. He desires it so much to the point of betraying the trust of people who are close to him just for his own greedy self gain. Macbeth betrays and backstabs many characters in the story, an example being King Duncan himself.
Macbeth is a well trained soldier who seems like he’d be a great leader and lots of people look up to him which makes him powerful. “All hail Macbeth, Thane of Glamis, Thane of Cawdor, be king hereafter”(Act 1, Scene 1). This quote is showing what Macbeth will become in the future and why people will respect him and his power. People are too scared to stand up to King Macbeth because they are afraid of what he’ll do and the confidence he has with his power is dangerous. “The power of man for none of woman born shall harm Macbeth”(Act 4, Scene 1).
Shakespeare’s Macbeth describes the detailed story of the thane of Glamis, a noble man and general, who takes the throne as the king of Scotland, by murdering the king and taking his place. Lady Macbeth, Macbeth’s wife, was a very ambitious woman, who convinced Macbeth to go through with the deed, as she had a passion to become the queen. After the deed is done, Macbeth is so focused on taking the throne, to the point where he will not let anything or anyone stand in his way, implying that he would go through with killing someone again, even his best friend Banquo, in order to keep his place on the throne, which is eventually what happens. Throughout the film Lady Macbeth is demonstrated as a much more emotional character, with her grieving over her child's death, to the breakdown during the terrifying burning of the Macduff family. However, they leave out the part where Macbeth is so greedy for power that he plans to kill Duncan and blame it on the guards so that he can become king. Once the noble Macbeth learns his destiny his “vaulting ambition” (Macbeth, l.27) shines. Since Macbeth has been given light to his future, he has hatred towards King Duncan and Banquo.
