Many people are unable to comprehend the great strength of a Marlin. The book, The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway, shows the struggles Santiago, an old fisherman, has reeling in a big Marlin. Throughout Santiago’s fishing trip, the boy, Manolin, could greatly aid Santiago on his fishing trip. There are many ways that Manolin would be able to help Santiago catch the Marlin. Manolin could greatly be helping Santiago by helping him to stay focused while he is out on his fishing trip. Manolin could be helping Santiago by making sure Santiago is focused on the fish he is trying to catch.

“I never felt him. I had to get rid of him too fast. Aloud he said, “I wish I had the boy.” But you haven’t got the boy, he thought...once the fish made a surge that pulled him down on his face and made a cut below his eye. The blood ran down his cheek a little way" (Hemingway 52). The boy could use his shirt or something to apply pressure to the cut below Santiago’s eye. This would relieve some of the pain that Santiago has, which could make it easier for him to reel in the fish. Manolin could also help bandage Santiago’s hand. “The bird had flown up when the line jerked and the old man had not even seen him go. He felt the line carefully with his right hand and noticed his hand was bleeding” (Hemingway 55-56). Santiago is unable to bandage his hand because he is holding onto the line so he doesn’t lose the fish. Manolin could bandage Santiago’s hand so his hand doesn’t keep getting worse from the friction of the rope. Manolin could help bandage up some of Santiago’s cuts and injuries so Santiago feels better and is not in as much
