The oracles had prophesied that Oedipus would kill his father and beget children by his mother. Was the prophecy something that had no choice, but to become fulfilled? Anything in my opinion that an oracle or fortuneteller would tell you isn’t final and therefore has the ability to be changed or altered. I don’t believe that you don’t have the ability to change your own future. Oedipus in the play seemed to be ignorant and arrogant, which caused him to have this complex. He was free to do whatever he wanted, but he made the choice to kill his father and those three men that day, because he felt like he could and to keep up with the complex that surrounded his personality.
