Lester & Parnell (2007) defines power as the exerted influence that one has over others that allows them to gain desired goals (p. 8-9). When one considers who maintains the power within an organization they consider the management chain of command, such as the front line supervisors, managers and even executives. There was a major power struggle with Jim McGee and his superior George Phalen, which then extended to his colleagues Ben Short and Dick Faraday. Although Phalen had gained legitimate power, in which he had the position of power as the Vice President of the Fuel Systems division. However, his method of exerting his power over McGee was by coercion, again which extended to other staff. An example of this coercion was displayed
