The Most Dangerous Game, a short story written by Richard O’Connell, is a mystery shrouded tale, which uses situational irony to show that the hunter will never understand or know the fear of the hunted, until they experience it themselves. This is demonstrated in the mysterious setting of a haunted island, along with the two hunters, Rainsford and Zaroff, both alike and intelligent, but with two vastly different intentions and mindsets. Also, the plot of Rainsford's unwanted arrival on the island forces him to fight for his life, flipping his perspective entirely from the mind of a killer, to the mind of the fear in his victims.
