How Does Scrooge Change In A Christmas Carol

There are many ways for someone to become left out and become cold hearted. In many cases, this person loses care for all things that would normally matter to most people. Being happy for them is nearly impossible as they can only see the negative aspects in anything. There cup becomes half empty instead of being half full. The only thing that matters to them is to possess and attain. In the book, A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens, a man named Ebenezer Scrooge has detached from the world and eventually regains his attachment to the world as he feels gradually feels sympathy for those other than himself. Scrooge has slowly detached himself from all friends and family. This lead Scrooge to become cold hearted and careless for anyone

He left all his friends and family because he was more interested in his gain rather than anyone else's. All that is about to change when Scrooge over time, begins to understand happiness for the first time in a long time. Once the spirit of Jacob Marley had visited him. Scrooge had been met by a couple spirits. The Ghosts of Christmas past and present had shown Scrooge many things that he had forgotten. These memories brought back the joy and care that Scrooge once possessed. On page 93, “ Oh no kind spirit, say he will be spared.” Scrooge had gradually changed to care for people that he had never even known. His employee, Bob Cratchit, has a family with a child that is slowly dying soon. Normally Scrooge wouldn’t care, but now he does and asks the spirit his fate in the future. The spectral being only replied with “ If he be like to die, then he’d better do it and decrease the population.” Scrooge had no response to this as these were his words when he was still detached and angry at people who celebrated all they could. He told several people that if they would rather die, then they should do it now and decrease the surplus population. This as well changed later in the story when Scrooge was enjoying watching games player by his family. Another quote on page 104, “ The ghost was greatly pleased to find him in this mood., and looked upon him with such favor, that he begged like a boy to be allowed to stay until the guests departed.” Scrooge was very joyful at the sight of his family playing games. Even though he couldn’t join the fun, he had just as much enjoyment watching them. When the spirit stated that they had to depart, Scrooge instantly became saddened as he had to leave them. The man who once couldn’t care about celebrations or even being happy, is now enjoying the happiest moment he’s had in a long time just from watching people playing games. He enjoys reliving the past and the present even though he
