Violence and How It Can Move People How does Shakespeare use violence in his plays? In the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare two lovers in fair Verona whose houses are destined to hate each other fall in love with each other. They are not even supposed to meet and then they love, marry and then kill themselves. First, The houses are only brought together through violence because of a brawl. For instance Sampson states in 1.1 44 "Nay, as they dare. I will bite my thumb at them, which is disgrace to them if they bear it" ( Shakespeare ). This quote is what starts the violence throughout the whole story. Romeo and Juliet just ignore the feud between their parents.
