Revenge, Smchevenge
There is has been a moment in everyone’s life where they have been wronged and seek revenge, it’s human nature. Revenge can be wanted for many reasons, but the real question is, “Is it right?”. In both Hamlet and the Count of Monte Cristo, the main characters themselves are more focused on revenge than anything else. The Count is the only one to keep his life and remain unharmed after all of it. Hamlet and the Count of Monte Cristo are both superlative methods to prove how revenge should be left up to Justice instead of our own accord.
In Hamlet you can see the very obvious conspiracy of revenge between Hamlet and his uncle, Hamlet almost gives up far into the play out of cowardliness. Claudius, seems to be enjoying life as the new king with a beautiful wife until things start to become heated down in the castle. “ O. My offence is rank it smells to heaven” (Hamlet ??). Claudius has begun to become worried that his murder is finally catching up to him and he will soon be found out. The emotional aftermath of carrying out an immoral deed is a contributing factor to why retribution should be left up to justice or a higher power. Laertes is an additional great example of vendetta over the loss of a loved one. He loses both his sister AND his father to Hamlet’s rampage which expectedly infuriates him. “And so I have a father lost; and a sister driven to desperate terms… but my revenge will come.”. Laertes comes home to the destruction of his family and immediately begins plotting with Claudius to kill Hamlet. The revenge ended up backfiring and killing everyone except Horatio, thus proving that they should have left justice to a more cautious and lawful
