Have you ever read a book where the main character changed throughout the course of the novel? The book, Holes by Louis Sachar, the main character Stanley Yelnats, a teenaged boy who is cursed of unluckiness gets sent to a juvie camp where you dig holes,for a cause to “change”.Stanley was innocent, but stated guilty because of the curse.Stanley changed throughout the book. He started off inconsiderate of others to a very loving, compassionate and sympathetic friend. At the beginning of the story, Stanley was selfish and he didn't really seem to care or think about others feelings. Zero, a boy at the camp was lonely and he was left out of the group. Zero didn't really care because he had gotten so used to the bullying but for some people that can really offend them or even if it goes to far, they can harm themselves. This is selfish because he isn´t thinking about Zero and thinking of how it is in his shoes. Another reason that Stanley was selfish is that he started to treat Zero the way the other boys did. Stanley had tol Zero,“I really don’t like it when you stare over my shoulder like that okay?”[Sachar 81] Stanley knew Zero was being left out and he didn’t help him or even think about him.They other boys at camp like X-Ray, Armpit, and ZigZag started rubbing off on Stanley, but Stanley could have easily stood up to them. He was yelling at Zero in the text evidence, when Zero was only trying to read.
