Holes 1. Stanley keeps walking towards the mountain because he feels that there is water there, and he also wants to find Zero. The whole reason Stanley left was because he was worried about Zero. I guess he felt responsible because if he had said no to Zero about digging his hole, none of this would have happened. Before he left to find Zero, he kept asking himself “what if it’s not too late” as in he could still save Zero and maybe he didn’t die.

The Dusky Devastators had a lot of trouble pulling in money during their shows because of the Great Depression. —------------------ Bud, the protagonist of the story, is a ten year old boy who is struggling with finding his family after his mother leaves evidence that he still has family left. Angela Janet Caldwell, Bud’s Mother, before the book starts when Bud was six years old. The Amoses adopted Bud when he was ten, but showed how cruel they could be when they locked Bud in the shed full of bugs for the night.
The novel starts off with an injured Confederate soldier, Inman, from the Battle of Fredericksburg. Inman was tended at a hospital but decides to leave at night to return to his lover, Ada Monroe, at Cold Mountain, North Carolina. Ada on the other hand did not live a glorious life at home. Her father soon dies and she is left to take over her father’s farm called the Black Cove. With the help of her friend, Ruby, the two women worked to make the farm in good condition.
It is about a crime committed by two characters, Richard Strout and Matt Fowler. Matt Fowler and Richard Strout are both the murderers and victims of the story. It is a short story about a father's love for his song that attracted revenge when the son was murdered. Although Emily's father was protective of her, he didn't go beyond to kill for his child. Before Richard Strout died, he did a crime of passion.
Stanley is the main character of the book. He is an overwight kid that loves to eat. He is convicted of a crime that he did not commit. but no one believes him. As a result, he is sent to a camp called Camp Green Lake which is a juvenile detention center.
Have you ever been so interested in your book, you cannot put the book down. This book is a family novel. Mostly about a family who goes on a road trip to see their grandma. The kids learn a lot about segregation. The kids go through rough times.
The author demonstrates the problems in the school systems when Scout enters school she is reprimanded by her teacher, Mrs. Honeycomb for reading proficiently. She is commanded to “tell [her] father not to teach [her] anymore” and stop reading outside of school. Lee’s incongruity of the situation alerts her readers to the flaws within the school system. Lee satirizes the church when Scout and Jem are taken to church by Calpurnia, their black housekeeper, when the children’s father is unavailable. At this Christian church, the children are ridiculed for being white.

Holes, written by Louis Sachar, takes you on a journey of a boy named Stanley Yelnats and his adventures in Camp Green Lake. Stanley Yelnats is a fourteen year old boy that has no friends and is constantly bullied for being overweight. Stanley's great-great-grandfather (Eyla Yelnats) was cursed by a gypsy named Madame Zeroni, and the curse has been passed down and has brought bad luck to the family. Stanley is arrested for theft and is sent to Camp Green Lake, a juvenile detention facility in Texas. Stanley's stay at Camp Green Lake brings him endurance, perseverance and friends.
Holes by Louis Sachar is an engaging book for all ages. It has a clear plot and is an excellent book for readers who have trouble understanding what they read. I’ve found myself always wanting to read on to find out what happens next. I would recommend this book to anybody who is passionate about getting to know each character physically and emotionally. In this book, multiple young men are expected to dig a five feet by five feet hole everyday without failure.
