In To Kill a Mockingbird by harper Lee, despite of him having a public trial, Tom Robinson, an innocent man was proven guilty, also his trial that was completely and utterly unfair, one-sided, and even discriminatory. This novel takes place in Maycomb, Alabama, a made up town. Robinson was working for the Ewell’s and one day Tom was invited into the house to fix a door. Tom Robinson was accused of raping and abusing a white woman, Mayella Ewell, when her father is the one who abused her. The jury had a lack of evidence to prove that Tom was guilty, and also ignored the evidence that proves his innocence.

It stated on page 165, “Mr. Tate was saying, “I don’t look for any trouble, but I can’t guarantee there won’t be any . . .” This show that as the trial are coming nearer, the people are getting more impatient, and this would cause them to act violence not only to the Negroes, but also to their fellow kind. This also show that prejudice can change a person point of view, and make them think only about their superiority over Negroes even though some of them are no better than the Negroes themselves, like the Ewell and the Cunningham.
Tom robinson is accused by rape and is judged by the color of his skin.. “I think there's just one kind of folks. Folks.(231)”, this quote resembles how race is an unjustified word, and everyone is equal no matter their color or where they come from. In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, the circumstances of Boo Radley’s fate signifies the sin of killing a mockingbird because of his disconnection to the world as a result of his maltreatment. In his reckless teenage years, Boo Radley and his Old Sarum friends drove around the town square in a borrowed car and locked Maycomb’s beadle in the courthouse outhouse. Harsh punishment ensued as a result of his brash actions when Mr. Radley detained Boo in their house and “was not seen again for fifteen years” (13). This symbolizes the killing of a mockingbird because Boo Radley was a young, foolhardy boy who was cut off from the world by his father due to a single mistake.
If Mr. Ewell had not been killed, the Finch children would be dead instead. Boo is a timid individual who prefers to stay in the dark than to be brought to negative or positive attention. He does not want praise or retribution for preventing murders with a murder. Even though he does not have the courage to defend himself, Heck Tate understands the situation and bends the rules minutely to ensure the safety of others. Mockingbirds are innocent and Boo Radley, Tom Robinson, and Charles Harris all three represent a mockingbird in there own way. Boo Radley represents a Mockingbird in the story for many reasons. Everyone sees Boo as a monster, but in reality he’s not a monster at all. In the midst of finding who Boo truly is, Atticus Finch explains to his children, Jem and Scout, that it is a sin to kill the bird because they don’t do anything but make music.
