This in my opinion is a very effective commercial because of Ali Landry. Of course this wouldn't work now but back then when everyone knew her it all made sense as to why doritos decided to use her. For example, in the commercial it says, “Every hour an animal is beaten or abused.” This fact is pretty straight forward and it gives you that sense of feeling that you could help what’s happening to these animals and eventually put a stop to it. Another fact that is presented is, “For only $18 a month you can rescue an animal and provide it with food and medical needs.” The logos in this commercial contributes a lot because it adds in some heartbreaking facts that it makes people want to help out. But this commercial should have incorporated more logos, such as statistics.
Pathos was used most effectively by showing a Budweiser employees family life and dedication to assist others through Budweiser’s water donation program. The music choice and layout of the commercial also subtly contributed to pathos. Ethos was also established by the credibility of the ones in the commercial and the humbling message of the commercial as a whole. Logos did not show in their commercial. My favorite ad is #CATmageddon by the organization, Truth. This commercial started running in the beginning of the year and used video of current internet cat memes such as, Keyboard Cat, Roomba Shark Cat and Pirate Cat along with facts and slogans to address Truth 's anti-smoking campaign, "Smoking Kills pets too". The video first presented the fact that cats are twice as likely to get cancer if their owner smokes. This demonstrates the use of rhetoric logos to convince the audience with logical reasoning. In addition, the video also uses pathos, the love and enjoyment people get from watching cat video.
Many of the points expressed within both articles are seen apparent within the Pepsi commercial. The Pepsi advertisers use the knowledge and the understanding that they have on consumer behavior to intrude on the subconscious emotions of the consumers’ rather than selling their products based on facts and conscious judgments. Consumers are often under the misconception that the Super Bowl commercials are harmless and are simply crafted for their pure entertainment. However, the Pepsi advertisers took advantage of the audience that were available during the Super Bowl event and implemented a strong sense of individualism, rebellion, and American Dream within their commercial delusion to coerce their audience into buying their product. The thematic elements of fire in the commercial will illustrate the experience of spicy when one eats a bag of Doritos “Blaze.” Correspondingly, the visual experience of Morgan Freeman in a icy palace exemplifies the cool, refreshing experience of enjoying a bottle of Mountain Dew “Ice”.

Advertising is a form of propaganda that plays a huge role in society and is readily apparent to anyone who watches television, listens to the radio, reads newspapers, uses the internet, or looks at a billboard on the streets and buses. The effects of advertising begin the moment a child asks for a new toy seen on TV or a middle aged man decides he needs that new car. It is negatively impacting our society. To begin, the companies which make advertisements know who to aim their ads at and how to emotionally connect their product with a viewer. The second ad I will discuss is one we all know and love it is the Christmas Coke advert. When this ad returns to our TVs every year we know it really must be coming close to Christmas. Coke being one the #1 selling soft drink brands in the world did not get here by chance they have used ingenious marketing strategies for over a century. Coke continues to brand itself as a delicious and fun brand with many different campaigns throughout the years such as ‘Share a Coke’ and ‘Open Happiness’. The brand focuses on the idea of bringing people together to enjoy the simple pleasures in life.
The “What Girls Are Made Of” Nike advertisement is inspired by a popular Russian song titled, “What Girls Are Made Of.” Judging by the title, the commercial is clearly geared towards girls, more specifically girls who are interesting in athletic activities and sports. While Nike’s objective is to sell its sports wear, it also sells an empowering message that defies stereotypes through the effective use of rhetoric. To begin, the advertisement begins in the setting of a stage and a large audience listening in agreement as a little girl in yellow charms, “Girls are made up of flowers, and rings and gossip and marmalade.” These are just few of many belittling stereotypical descriptives for a girl.
