Although the Baroque and Neoclassical styles that had dominated the seventeenth century continued into the eighteenth century, by the 1730’s a new style known as Rococo began to influence and spread decoration and architecture all over Europe. Rococo art emphasized grace and gentle action. Rococo rejected strict geometrical patterns and had a fondness for curves, it liked to follow the wandering lines of natural objects, such as seashells and flowers.
Aaron Copland broke musical compositions into different categories. Modern compositions changed from the romantic era and classical era. Modern music took on a more artistic presence. There were different styles of music, i.e. impressionism, symbolism, expressionism, experimentation, and consonance & dissonance. During this period music can be confusing.

Learning Journal Unit 3 How much did classical Roman art and architecture influence the development of Christian art and architecture, and in what ways did it exhibit its distinctiveness? Christian art and architecture were influenced by the art and architecture of classical Rome to a significant extent. Early Christian art borrowed many motifs and styles from the art of the Roman Empire, such as the use of mosaic, fresco, and sculpture, as well as the depiction of figures in a frontal and hieratic manner (Buis, n.d.). For example, the use of the cross in Christian art was derived from the Roman crucifixion and the depiction of Christ as a beardless young man was inspired by the idealized images of Roman youth.
There is no doubt that classical tradition continued to influence art in the 1700 's, especially since it still effects art today. During the 1700 's there were also many differences that set art an artists apart from that classical style. Some of the similarities are a little more obvious to me than the differences. In both era 's, body 's looked idealized, and often times active.
There are many Architectural buildings that influenced the west today. Mainly the Archaic and classical temples constructions are what we still see in our buildings today. Architecture evolved in Ancient Greece with the Parthenon. The columns and the overall geometric shape of perfection. Also the way the roof was built without any support on the inside.
“Classical Ideal” In the documentary, “Art of the Western World-The Classical Ideal”, the narrator provides a history and a perspective on the Greek and Roman creation of the “Classical Ideal” to art and architecture. The narrator infers that the foundation of the two societies, namely their democratic falsifies and religious foundations, along with their focus on fitness, personal strength, calculations and intelligence, drove Greece and later Rome, to perfect their visions of balance, symmetry and beauty in their architecture and art. Greece and Rome are often held out as the greatest societies to have ever existed.
I think the new patrons of the arts in the 15th-18th centuries brought diversity to the arts during the Renaissance period. While up until this point the church was the primary commissioner of art works, those works tended to focus on religious iconography and biblical stories, as well as church architecture and works to adorn church interiors. The new interest in works of art by government and wealthy or middle class families allowed the artists to depict a broader range of subject matter in their work. During the 19th century, the church lost its power and its traditional theme and the rapid growth of urbanization and industrialization led to to the birth of “Isms”. Neoclassicism, a revival of Greek and Roman art; a direct reaction to the excessiveness of Baroque and Rococo styles. During the American and French Revolutions, the political atmosphere began to lean towards an Age of Reason and Enlightenment. With admiration for classical Roman and Greek art renewed after excavations of Herculaneum and Pompei, efforts for style to accompany philosophy caused an inevitable return to the "classics"(AML 68). Early works of artists such as Jean August Dominique Ingres and especially Jacques-Louis David encompassed the thematic elements associated with Neoclassicism.
Furthermore, it was used around the world especially in the U.S. like the detail in the columns of the U.S. Capitol Building. Its size and architecture are of the most famous feat of engineering ever created that is “still widely known today . . . as the biggest construction projects of the ancient world” (Anonemuss 51-52). If it was nor for the Golden Age if Athens, the visual art of the Parthenon would be different and probably would not be such a tourist prone place after all. The Classical period of Greek were essential in balance and symmetry in every design of the arts.

During the 18th and 19th centuries, architectural styles were heavily influenced by the social and political aspects of the time. Due to the Industrial Revolution and the many social consequences that it brought along with it, architecture went through many phases and styles in a short period of time. One of these architectural styles sought to turn back time to follow the medieval ideas of social values and the beauty of architecture, while another was attempting to break into a new era of architecture, with its use of non-traditional materials and concepts. Other styles introduced by Neo-Classicism, Romanticism, and the Arts & Crafts movement were all in complement to another, playing a huge role in moving the times forward, or backward, depending on your perspective. Even though these styles are in complement to each other, most view Neo-Classicism and Romanticism as a complete antithesis to each other, citing their many differences.
The Classical era is more innovative in comparison with the baroque era. Baroque music is characterized by polyphonic texture, improvisation of instrumentalists throughout pieces, as well as complexities in rhythm, mood, and melody. In the transition between baroque and classical style, tuneful melodies emerged, there was a primary focus on homophonic texture, and there were new instruments added to the orchestra (McGraw Hill Textbook) An example of classical era innovative was the shift in societal demands of these musicians. There were often complaints of baroque music having too many elements going on simultaneously, individuals were never sure what to focus on, whereas classical was simpler, allowing the audience to enjoy it more. Introduction 1.1 Baroque Art Baroque painting consists of a range of styles varying from Classical Religious Grandeur, Realism and Easel Art maturing during the beginning of 1600 and continuing throughout the mid 18th century. Therefore this new movement saw the proliferation of major themes of Baroque painting such as the de-emphasis of the figure, a mastery of light and shadow, realism in all things and last but not least, new subjects like landscapes, still life and self-portraiture. Compared to Renaissance, Baroque art was mainly characterized by outstanding drama which in paintings was richer, used deep colours, and used intense light and very dark shadows.
Baroque Periods Impact in Today 's Modern Arts Baroque music is a period of history that was widespread between 1600-1750 (newworldencyclopedia.org). Baroque changed music to make it more of an entertainment for people which helped generate its popularity amongst all types of people. The music was so widespread and diverse it is hard to label different musicians and songs under “baroque” but that what it is. The original meaning of baroque is actually “irregular pearl” which would help to understand that the music does not fit with say secular music it is to diverse and has become so widely used and accepted it just stuck (newworldencyclopedia.org). The Baroque period did not just affect the art of music, but the arts in general.
