The past, the present, the future of literacy.
Literacy. What does it mean, where did it come from, who is defined by it, and what does it define? Literacy is not just a word, it’s more or less a way of life. In todays world we have defined literate as a person who can read, and write, but to me its goes far more than that. Like many who can say they are literate they went to school again like me. In todays world, going to school is a right of passage, and to go to college that puts you in one of the top educational tiers in America. Now we can learn languages to communicate with other around the world with the ease of access of just on click away. Now we can store a library’s worth of books on devices half a books size. What the world wide web has done is that is has made the teachings and the works of many available to people who might not have been exposed to them. Like how Stephens Kings master piece “Christine” can now be available to say a child in rural Samoa he couldn’t even tell you who the president of the U.S is. To me the digital age has impacted my life almost indefinitely because I grow up with it. And what the future in tales. To me literacy’s is defined by how a person lives and can commutate with his neighbors and people around the world making them a global citizen. I believe that I became literate because I went to school and now college, experienced other languages, red books that aren’t from my century, and can understand problems that aren’t facing me but the world as a whole. I think college is something that every man, woman, and child should be available to because is a stepping stone in your life. That you are going to take a huge leap and commit to a higher tier of form education so that you can make your life better and the ones you hold dear.
