We all have our own favorite television show that we like to watch after having a long day at work or school. It gives us time to sit back, relax, forget about our responsibilities, and enjoy our weekly entertainment. The reason why we are able to watch our shows is because we are the reason they stay on air. After watching the film, The Truman Show directed by Peter Weir we get to see how this 24-hour live show was able to stay on for over 30 years because millions of people were watching it every day (Weir). By watching it every day, they became obsessed with Truman’s life. Believing that the show was all real, they wanted to keep watching. Since we do have that power over media, we should use it to push for shows that help teach us to be better people instead of wasting our time on shows that don’t.
Media is broadcasted everywhere from our phones, television, and radio. We control what we can hear and see. Since we have that power, it puts us up on a higher pedestal. Without an audience the program dies. Since we as an audience have that higher pedestal, we have more dominance on media productions. The type of shows we like to watch are reality and drama shows. In The Truman Show directed by Peter Weir, towards the beginning of the film we are shown a blank screen that just says Day 10, 909. Which is how many days The Truman Show has been aired and how old Truman is (Weir). By having the show for that many years, shows how the audience hasn’t gotten tired of
