Throughout the novel The Bluest Eyes Toni Morrison’s gives the reader a clear depiction of abuse and the affects of abuse. A good definition of abuse is treating a person or animal with cruelty or violence. In this novel Morrison reveals to the reader that abuse can come in Two and can be passed down from adult to child. The first form of abuse is mental abuse, the second form is physically, and finally the idea that there is a cycle to abuse
The first part of abuse that Toni Morrison displays in this novel is the mental abuse that the characters go through . One character that Morrison develops through mental or psychological abuse is Pauline Breedlove. the exposure of Pauline’s mental abuse can be seen when she first moved away with Cholly into Ohio. During which Pauline deals with how her accent or curly hair makes her stick out more and even the other northern blacks began to make fun of her. She ends up feeling down on herself tries to fix these problem by looking at Jean Harlow as a model on how to look. But this is not enough and Pauline gives into the hate that came from others and even her own husband after teases from losing a tooth. As a result she accepts that she will never be beautiful.

the first example of this is Cholly raping his wife Pauline. One example of this is the 11 year old Pecola who is abused throughout the novel if not mentally through it was physically. The physical abuse that pecola faced is when Mr.Breedlove,Pecola’s father, raped her. Not only is the 11 year old left unconscious showing how severe the incident. not only is this event physically harming to Pecola it leads to her being outcasted even more by society and rejected by her own
