In World War One, there we many new developments that affected the way the war was fought. At this time there was many different advantages being developed such as new weapons during the war. The arms race between Germany and Great Britain eventually led to World War One. This led to two of the most important advancements in World War One: the machine gun and U-Boats. The use of the machine gun and the U- Boat changed the way World War One was fought. The machine gun, which helped significantly destroy the enemy during World War One, was a weapon that had a huge impact when the war began in August 1914. It was used to kill many enemies at a fast rate and it was used so that no soldier had to run into the no-man's land and risk being killed. During trench warfare, two opposing armies would face off in battle from these trenches that were on the territory in which the army of that side was trying to defend. The trenches are where the soldiers from each side would hide to avoid being hit by the enemies. The machine gun is what led to this concept known as Trench Warfare. A trench may simply start out as as a collection of tiny holes dug by the soldiers using the tools in which they had available. These holes eventually began to get deepened so that a soldier can safely stand up in one of them and use it as protection from the enemy. Along with these trenches came crawl tunnels enabling the soldiers to crawl safely from trench to trench without being harmed or injured. The use of these trenches did not become as important until World War One. These trenches first appeared within the first few months of the war’s outbreak. After the major outbreak took place this is when the trenches really came into use and helped the soldiers during
