“Kids don’t remember their best day of television” (unknown). They remember reading, family traditions, and their time spent outdoors. For some parents of young children, television shows such as Sesame Street are a great educational tool; however, not all television programs are educational. Scientific research proves too much television causes health issues, attention problems, and prevents intellectual development (Infographic).
In the infographic titled, 10 Effects of Watching Too Much T.V, it lists 10 of the most problematic issues associated with too much T.V. I have shortened the infographic to list the most controversial issues affecting American Children. As the picture states, “for every two hours of T.V per day, obesity rises by 23%” and “Children have twice the chance of suffering from asthma than children who do not watch T.V” (infographic). These facts are not surprising because watching T.V goes hand-in-hand with snacking. Most of the time children are eating snacks that are high in fat and sugar instead of healthy choices. Children have become “couch potatoes,” filling their body with toxins that decrease energy levels; thus, making them too tired to get proper exercise. If children hear the sound of a T.V while you are talking to them, you may not have their full attention. Although the child may not have been paying full attention to the T.V, having it on as “white noise” could have caused the child to develop a learning disorder from its distraction.
