Population, college, and football. Who would have thought these things would be what created booming towns of oil in Texas. Around the early 1900s most specifically the 1920s there was a lot of people moving to Texas for oil . Oil made lots of people move to Texas to join in on the bandwagon. But there were other reasons also. I am going to explain why oil changed Texas´s social change for you guys on this radio show. Three important social changes oil brought to Texas in the 1900s are a fierce rise in divorce rates, the development of higher education, and high school football. The most important social change that oil brought was Divorce changes and population Which is going to take up my 30 min time slot tonight. The divorce rate is very important because it shows how many people came during these years. It showed that the jobs and all the money was very hard on these families. This shows that a lot more people got divorced in an Oil town than the rest of the U.S.The more people that moved into these towns the more people that were getting a divorce. In 1932 the total U.S. that got divorced was only 1.3 people on average , and in Ector Texas 25.5 people got divorced on average, This is because of how many people were living in these towns. …show more content…

The oil made so much money that they were able to create colleges for people to continue their learning process. This is very important because it brought more people to Texas for not just oil but also education. They took the profits from the oil and made campuses for people to learn more.
