The American Revolution was a huge part of literature today and there are so many events that happened here are some of the events and points that shows how much the American Revolution affected literature today. The American Revolution had a notable impact on American Literature. The American revolution was fought in the better half of the 1700’s. It was fought between Britain and its 13 North American colonies. It was fought because the British Parliament had sought even greater control over the colonies after they helped Britain in the French and Indian War. The British parliament passed laws called The Intolerable Act, otherwise known as the Coercive Act. They were harsh laws that were created as a result of the Boston Tea Party. The Intolerable Acts had started American writers such as Thomas Paine and Samuel Adams to create literary pieces to voice their frustration to the British and show their defiance against them. Together they wrote essays, pamphlets, speeches and other ways of writing. This led to the American Revolution which brought up how the 13 colonies wanted to escape the British government. The reason for the Olive Branch Petition was to avoid war with the British Parliament and emphasize their rights as British citizens. As a response Britain came up with the prohibition act, which only made colonists more angry. “We therefore beseech your Majesty, that your royal authority and influence may be graciously interposed to procure us releif [sic] from our afflicting fears and jealousies occasioned by the system before mentioned, and to settle peace through every part of your dominions.” This historic and political document explains the colonists' frustrations with Britain.
