How Is Atticus Finch Courageous

Atticus Finch is characterized more in depth in this unit. Atticus has one of the most courageous hearts and minds in Maycomb. For instance, when the mad dog or rabies infected dog was coming toward their neighborhood Atticus stepped up and had to shoot the dog. It states in the book that “ The rifle crazed. Tom Johnson leaped, flopped over and crumpled on the sidewalk”. This shows that Atticus put his kids need sover his own. Atticus tells both Jem and Scout to go inside and not come out. By doing this he is protecting his family and the town from hurting themselves. Atticus did not like guns because of how they were used but he only uses it when he has to. in the book it states “I guess he would not shoot till he had to, and he had to today”. They followed Atticus there and the mob forms because they want to hang Tom. All the kids jump in and this is where Atticus gets worried, but he does successfully protect them from the mob. Atticus knew that he can be hurt or even killed by these people, but did not care about his health if his kids we're not safe. he did one thing and that was that he had a polite conversation between Jem, Scout, and the people in the mob. He knew getting them annoyed would just make the problem more difficult to solve. in the book he politely asks Jem “ Please Jem take them home”.
