Dave Thomas is a well-known man. He is popular for being a spokesperson for many of Wendy’s commercials. Starting in 1989 he began this journey as this famous company’s spokesperson. This allowed ninety percent of America to have knowledge of who he was. Sadly dying in early 2002, he may not be as well-known today. In 1982 Dave Thomas stepped away of the operations of these franchises. After four years of stepping always some poor business decisions were made. These mistakes hurt sales, due to this the new president of Wendy’s wanted Dave Thomas to take more action into the company. He opened his franchise, because he couldn’t find a good hamburger anywhere in Columbus Ohio. The success story lives on today, with profiting sales. Finally in the year 1969 Dave found the perfect place to open up his restaurant. He opened up his first restaurant downtown. This store became the first Wendy’s. In 1969-1979 Dave promoted his food as fresh. They were the fresh made to order burgers. Every other fast food restaurant and the time used frozen burgers. The first menu contained the following items hot n’ juicy burgers, rich n’ meaty chili, french fires, soft drinks and a frosty dairy dessert. The restaurant was home like, and comfortable. Expending the restaurant Wendy’s added a pick up window in 1971. Dave was able to open one thousand new franchises in the first one hundred months. Although Wendy’s weren’t the first to produce and use the pick window they were the first to produce the salad bar. Also in 1983 Wendy’s introduced the bake potatoes to their menu. This company also added a Super Value Menu, where everything on this menu was ninety-nine cents. He protruded Wendy’s as a homely place, family friendly. People could pin his face when they saw Wendy’s, this made the store every inviting. To add to this promotion he was asked to do just a few commercials in 1989. Customers agreed that fresh food was better than Frozen food. By the time Wendy’s ten years anniversary came they had a total of six hundred and fifty-two commercials completed produced and aired to for the public eye to view. Many were interested to hear Dave’s success story. This allowed him to appear on major talk shows. He wrote an autobiography about himself. He title the book Dave says Well Done. He also promoted adoption of foster children. Being adopted himself this was very near to his heart. He founded, “Dave’s Thomas for Adoption” President George Bush names him a national spokesperson on adoption issues. In the 1996 Olympic Torch Relay Dave was asked to carry the Olympic Torch.
