1. Jack is unable to kill the pig because he is still bound by the concept of civilization and common morals, so he has not yet moved to the “dark side” yet. Also, he knows that if he kills the pig he will be crossing a line and knows he will not be able to turn back. This signifies how Jack I incapable of violence. Jack states how he is waiting for just the right time to kill the pig, but that is a lie and is scared to do it, it states, “They knew very well why he hadn’t: because of the enormity of the knife descending and cutting into living flesh; because of the unbearable blood” (Golding 33). This shows that the kids are still innocent and attached to the concept of civilization, especially Jack. He is not comfortable with killing an animal that is living and does not have the mental capacity to do so.

The relationship between Piggy and Ralph is that Piggy admires Ralph and thinks they are good friends and each other's right hand man. However, Ralph also likes Jack and is attempting to be friends with both, which will not turn out well. Furthermore, Piggy needs Ralph, so they should be friends and allies because it is intelligence and rationality, but what stops this from happening is Ralph is wishy washy and unwilling to commit to him. As a result, Ralph will need to make a choice but he does not want to. Later on, there is an argument about a beast and when the argument begins to finish Ralph looks at Piggy to see what he thinks of the incident and Piggy is happy for Ralph, it states, “Ralph flushed, looking sideways at Piggy’s open admiration” (Golding 37). This shows that Piggy admires Ralph more than Ralph admires Piggy. Also, this shows that Ralph wants to please everyone, and tries to be friends with both Jack and Ralph, but that is not possible, and by doing this he will eventually get himself into
