How Is Perseus An Epic Hero

In the story of a greek poem The Odyssey, Odysseus is seen to be an epic hero as well as Percueus in the movie The Clash of the Titans. Out of the two prominent figures in Greek mythology, there is no doubt that Perseus fits the profile of an Epic Hero more clearly. Perseus demonstrates great courage, elevated status, and superhuman strength which allow him to overcome obstacles throughout his journey. One of the qualities that allows Perseus to be a greater epic here is his distinctive courage. He takes on the challenge of saving his parents from the angered Gods. As a result, he meets various life threatening tasks. For example, Hades unleashes his enormous scorpions to attack him and his fellow companions, some who end up dying. He shows capabilities that no ordinary hero would be able to do such as riding and taming a pegasus, which help him continue his journey multiple times. Pegasus’ are only allowed to be ridden by those who have permission by the Gods’ and are seen as very sacred creatures to Greek mythology. This indicates Perseus' status throughout the movie. Likewise, as he is son of Zeus, he is given the ability to wield Zeus’ sword. Being able to hold a valued item, such as the sword, takes great responsibility and blessing from the Gods. Him being permitted to use the sword shows he is respected by the Gods and viewed as someone with elite power. Last but not least, Perseus is also given the opportunity to be a God by Zeus. To be given a chance at something so noble means being highly respected by the Gods. It also displays just how heroic and impressive his deeds were to them. With being a God, he has the chance of being immortal, worshipped, and interacting with the other Greek
