The Tempest, written by William Shakespeare, in 1611. Revolves around a man named Prospero that was once wronged by his brother Antonio. Prospero was forced to live on a deserted island for 12 years, with his daughter Miranda. Prospero is hungry for revenge, and a opportunity finally surpasses when the men that wronged Prospero come across his island. Prospero is a power hungry- tyrant. Through out The Tempest Prospero is constantly using his power for his own well being. Prospero takes the island away from Caliban and imprisons him, then he holds Ariel captive, using her power for himself. and lastly Prospero uses his daughters lack of knowledge of men and the to side world. Prospero only has his mind set on revenge, no matter the cost and who will get hurt along the way. …show more content…

When Prospero first arrived on the island, Caliban owned it. The island was his home. Caliban revealed to Prospero all the treasures that the island had to offer. Caliban gave him access to food, water and shelter. Caliban gave prosper everything that he would ever need to survive, and in return Prospero imprisoned Caliban and tortured him. In result Caliban despises Prospero, only setting him out for revenge.
To continue, Prospero is nothing more than someone that is looking for power because before Prospero got to the island, Sycorax had imprisoned a mythical creature called Ariel in a tree for hundreds of years. Prospero later frees Ariel from the tree, but only to take her as his servant. Prospero uses Ariel's powers for his own glory. Prospero promises Ariel her freedom but does not follow through. Outraged Ariel states;
"Remember I have done thee worthy service; told thee no lies, made no mistakes, served without or grudge or grumblings: thou didst promise to bate me a full year." (2.1,
