Religions around the world contain different practices, rituals and texts all contributing to their complexity. Depending on their origin and region, some religions adopt certain beliefs, practices, and rituals accrediting to their similarities. Many similarities like exposure to different religious cultures and differences that include each religion’s distinguishable practices. One of the recently developed religions, Scientology, chooses to adopt some behaviors from certain religions along with employing other tactics to retain members. Scientology mirrors the behaviors of many religions from their stories, practices and culture. When compared to other religions, Scientology contains many features that make it unique from other religions.
As a new religion, Scientology employs elements of science fiction into their belief system as well as other supposedly scientific methods. The religion differs from religions like Hinduism which believe in more than one God. In Hinduism, believers worship or believe in multiple deities rather than one god that directs the world. Scientologist believe that “what is true for you is what you have observed yourself. And when you lose that you have lost everything (L. Ron Hubbard).” Scientology advocates believing by seeing rather than just placing their faith in sermons and texts, which differs from many old religions like Christianity. In addition, it weaves futuristic technology like bombs, aliens, and spacecraft into their belief system. Many of these stories start as oral transmissions which differs from the stories of Scientology.
