How Social Media is turning us into Anti-Social Creature
Nowadays almost everyone has a social media account, whether this is a Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, etc. So how does this affect us as humans? Although social media platforms may claim that they are bringing people closer, in reality these platforms are pulling people apart and making them less social. These platforms are making millennials less social while in social settings. Making people base their success off of how many people follow/friend them. Finally these platforms have opened up a whole new way for people to bully others while staying relatively anonymous.

They are always posting things no matter what people say, thinking people want to know their opinions just because they are famous. Many of the thing these people tweet can really affect how millennials think, so for example when Donald Trump tweeted "Sadly, because president Obama has done such a poor job as president, you won't see another black president for generations!" (Trump). To imagine that the person who tweeted this is now the President of the United States is completely shocking. If this is what young people see celebrities are tweeting then how will this affect them? Young people are more receptive to new ideas, so when someone this well-known is posting racist things like this, young people will start to think that if he is doing it then I can also do this without having any repercussions. Furthermore, all the social media platforms people show only what they want others to see, leaving out all the dull moments. Based off a survey conducted by the Royal Society for Public Health, people in the age group of fourteen to twenty-four said that Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram increased their feelings of depression, anxiety, poor body image and loneness (Ehmke). A major cause of this decline in mental health among teens is that they are always on social media, and always seeing the things that others want them to see, like photos where the people are absolutely gorgeous.
