How Resilience Changed My Life

Resilience is the test of remaining strong and prosperous; It's the ability to overcome and learn from the hardships that inevitably forces you to face. The determination of a person's character quality exhibits their ability to recoup and succeed from their misfortunes.
The last year was the year of multiple family loses and misfortunes that tested the resilience of my spirit and self-will. On May 2nd, 2016, my mom and I received a call that would change me as a person. My sister had been in a car accident. She was driving home for the summer after her last class at FSU. I remember this day like it was yesterday because it felt like someone had clenched my heart with their hand and made it impossible to breathe. I remember feeling as if i were going to lose my mind because i realized that my only sister could possibly die that night. That night, my mom and I learned the full extent of the damage my sister and her car suffered. The car had taken majority of the damage on it the drivers side and was completed totaled. Within the second week of June, my uncle passed away from a staph infection due to the negligence of the hospital he underwent surgery at. The hospital had failed to undergo post-surgery protocol which includes blood testing to ensure that the patient didn’t contract any bacterial infections. Staph is easily contagious and isn’t typically fatal but becomes deadly when it enters the bloodstream where it then travels throughout the entire body causing pain. Can you imagine that? Losing a close family member to such a simple and completely avoidable infection all because of carelessness. To add more grief, within six weeks another uncle passed away from the same type of negligence my previous uncle subjected to; the only difference is that he passed away from the negligence of his so called
