Andrea Valderrama Mrs. May English IV 10 December 2017 Selena Quintanilla Selena Quintanilla was a role model to many Latinos and became an icon even after death. Selena Quintanilla’s greatest contribution were improving the Latin music industry by creating unique Tejano beats and bringing joy to the Latino community with her songs. Selena Quintanilla first started her career at a young age in her father's band “Los Dinos”. Los Dinos performed in a variety of events like weddings and parties. Los Dinos became known around the city , Selena Quintanilla's father dropped Selena out of school to continue to perform with the band.
Selena Quintanilla Perez was a Mexican American singer who was born in Lake Jackson Texas. Selena’s life was filled with music and dancing along with the love from her friends and family. Unfortunately Selena was killed by her fan club manager at the age of 23. Although Selena has died, she still lives on and has impacted people's lives throughout the years. Selena Quintanilla was born on April 16, 1971.
In the late 1980’s to early 1990’s one women was able to break this barrier and lead the way for many other artists to come, her name; Selena Quintanilla. She did so many tremendous things, influenced so many people, and made such a big impact in the music industry. Selena mainly focused on Mexican music when she first started. She did not always stick to her Mexican culture and Mexican music though. This is the story and background of Selena Quintanilla-Perez.
By June 11, 1986, Selena y Los Dinos released the group’s third album, and their fame began to increase. 1986-1988 Selena won the Tejano Music Awards prize for female vocalist of the year for the first time and she captured the honor every year. In concert, Selena’s sexy bustiers and taunting and her pouty smiles earned her the nickname “the Tex-Mex Madonna.” Mid-1991 Selena and Chris Perez, who had recently began playing guitar, they admitted they had romantic feelings for each other, and their relationship began. April 2, 1992 they got married.
Selena was widely looked up to in the Mexican American community, and she was an inspiration to everyone who wanted to make a name out of themselves from nothing. Selena Quintanilla-Perez inspired many with her selfless personality and impeccable music, her legacy still lives on today, even 23 years after her death. Abraham Quintanilla and Marcella Ofelia were parents of A.B Quintanilla III, Suzette Quintanilla and Selena. They lived in a house in Lake Jacskon, Texas, where Abraham opened up his own restaurant, Papa Gayo’s. Selena’s musical strength was noticed immediately by her dad, which is why he used Papa Gayo’s as a platform for Selena and her siblings
She was a fearless, bold and energetic sing. In every performance, Selena made her father was satisfied with her accomplishments. Selena Quintanilla became the Queen of Tejano, by the type of music styles she sang. She also became the Mexican Madonna by the moves, she would do in her performances. Selena was cherished by many Mexicans.
Selena was a remarkable woman and an unforgettable one. Selena was determined when she wished something she works for her ambition. As the times moved, and she turned famous she never quit being humble, never changed no matter what appeared in or out of her life. Selena Quintanilla’s Legacy and Impact On Texans Selena Quintanilla was not only the sweetheart of Tejano music, but she was a sweetheart that everyone would always remember. She spread her spirit, love, and humbleness, not only through her music, but through her fans that she adored. Though her life was cheerful and vibrant, her death did not keep the people down, but allowed them to rise and celebrate her life as if she never passed. Selena Quintanilla not only left with a continuous impact on Tejano music, but she left her imprint in each and every heart of her fans in Texas, far and near.
Though, after a tragic murder ending her life, Selena will always be remembered as the first successful female Tejano singer. It all started when Selena sang the song “Blue Moon” in front of her father. Abraham, her father, instantly knew that she had talent. Taking ahold of this opportunity, he created a band consisting of Selena, Suzette (his other daughter), and A.B. (his son). Selena y los Dinos started by playing in a restaurant that their father opened up.
Selena Quintanilla-Perez was a talented Mexican-American singer, songwriter, spokesperson, and fashion designer. On top of her career, she had respect, and was admired as a great role model by Mexican Americans. The “Queen of Tejano” music, her contributions to music and fashion made her one of the most celebrated Mexican-American entertainers of the late 20th century. Billboard magazine named her the “Top Latin Artist of the 90s” and then “Best Selling Latin Artist of the decade”. Selena ranks among the most influential Latin artists of all time and is credited for catapulting a music genre into the mainstream market.

Selena Quintanilla did just that, struggling through her hero’s journey fighting sexism, discrimination, and camouflaged betrayal to rise to stardom and persevere, paving a path of hope for the millions of women she inspired and becoming a beacon in the evolution of the female industry.
