Have you ever read a book and really made a connection with the main character? Maybe you guys shared the same likes or interests. Well in the book Girl, Stolen by April Henry, the main character Cheyenne Wilder and I share many similarities. We connect with the same viewpoints and aspects of the world. Sixteen-year-old Cheyenne Wilder is sleeping in the back of the car while her stepmom fills a prescription for antibiotics. Before Cheyenne realizes what's happening, the car is being stolen. One way the world views Cheyenne is by her being irrelevant. “Ever since you got into that car accident and became blind, you’ve just been stupid!” (34). Everybody thinks just because she is blind now that she can’t function like the rest of us. They see her as being dumb and stupid and not as smart as all of us. People think that she shouldn’t even be here because she can’t see and there’s no point of having her on this Earth. Another way the world views her is her being different. “Don’t you dare come out of that room, you’re not normal like the rest of us” (102). Nobody knows how much she has been through, or how far she has come so they just judge her by how she looks and reacts differently to stuff than us. People around her just thinks because she is blind she can’t do stuff the way we do or she doesn’t know how to do it properly like the rest of us. For this they don’t like her and believe she should just be done with life. The last way the world views Cheyenne Wilder is by her being nobody. “Can’t you see that nobody likes you, you’re nobody. Why do you think your mom left you”? (97). People around her are teasing her, making fun of how her and her mom got into the car accident. Cheyenne is interacting with the most crucial people on Earth and they make her feel like she has no purpose of living. They crack jokes about how her mom didn’t want to put up with her anymore and that's why they got into that car accident. …show more content…

Wishing they would let me go I knew that this would be a long journey so I have to remain brave and strong or I will never be free. I really do not think I should be suffering with myself being blind and sick. This is how I would respond to the central conflict if I was in Cheyenne Wilder’s
