Mental health care is extremely important in Australia, as millions of people who suffer from mental illness need it to function normally in their daily lives. This is why it is important that you, the Australian Government, must take action now and put increased effort into fixing the problems that are occurring right now with our healthcare system, to make healthcare more accessible for every Australian. The disparity in healthcare caused by financial inequalities has caused people to say that the mental healthcare system is ‘the worst it’s ever been’, due to resolvable problems such as lack of resources, cost of obtaining mental health care, and wait times for affordable mental health care. About 60% of Australians deal with financial stress, with some people barely able to afford food, and now the availability of mental health care is another thing for them to worry about. While some people may argue that this is not a major issue and there are more important things that the Australian government should be worried about, it is becoming increasingly obvious that this is a very serious issue that can have alarming consequences. The suicide rate is reported to have risen once again in the last year - if people do not receive mental health care in time, they can reach a crisis point which can become life-threatening. This issue is also connected to the cost of living crisis in Australia, due to the fact that financial stress is directly damaging the mental health and wellbeing of many Australians.
