There is a lot of controversy about the book, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, about the n-word being used in the old version too much and other things to go along with the n-word also. I’m going talk about why both versions should be available because I think the people should have the choice whether they want to read the new version or old version. I think the new version should be used because the colored people take offense the the n-word, and sometimes people don’t realize how bad the word is I think. I also think the new version should be used because I personally think that using the n-word more than 200 times in one book is way too much. I think schools should teach the old version because they can show how they talked back then, how cruel white people were to the colored people and how much they used the n-word. Back then they did not talk the same way as we do now, for example there is a quote in the book that I have to show you how they talked. "'Yes-en I's rich now, come to look at it. I owns mysef, en I's wuth eight hund'd dollars. I wisht I had de money, I wouldn' want no''" (Twain 52). They did not have the same education as us so they did not talk the way we do and don't talk the way we are used to hearing people talk. I also think the schools should teach the old version because back in the day they did not treat colored people fairly. So I think that kids should be able to see how white people treated them and teach the kids not to treat the colored people unfairly, and if they do then that colored kid will get angry. Today we do not have slaves and if you do you would get in big trouble if you get caught, and in the book, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Jim is a runaway colored slave. Younger kids maybe don't even know what a slave is so that is another reason that I think schools should teach the old
