Criticization on the election of 2000 between Albert Gore and George W. Bush In 2000, 54th presidential election was held between the Democrat Albert Gore and the Republican George W. Bush. As a result from the close ballot battle between two candidates, George W. Bush won the election and became the 43rd president of the United States. However, some argue that the result of this close ballot battle between two candidates is skeptical and somewhat unfair;and truly, the process of how the votes were counted in Florida is debatable. The vote result in Florida is faulty because the vote result was close enough to finish up counting all the uncounted ballots, and the one-sided support from the governor of Florida unfairly helped Republican …show more content…

It is also true that when there was only 0.03% difference of vote between two candidates, the state mandated the ballots to recount the votes by machine recount. But, the problem was when the election was going to end without counting the 175000 uncounted ballots in Florida. If the voting system was organized correctly, and the governors treated both parties equally without standing on one side, those uncounted ballots must’ve been counted before the network exposed the false broadcast to people. Also, 98 votes and 51 ballots were not counted until the very last result of the election;instead, Secretary of Florida declared Bush’s victory in Florida by 537 votes. Apparently, the result of the vote was so close that the uncounted ballots were actually worth to finish counting. In other words, it is not fair for the state to ignore the remainder of the people’s votes just because of the deadline that government forces;in fact, considering the fact that those remainings can change the whole result of the presidential election, I believe that the length of process of counting votes can be changed. Therefore, the result of the 2000 election is skeptical because valuable votes were ignored when it shouldn’t be
