Initially, I thought my project would be centered around "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock." I was originally going to paint a peach, but with my minimal drawing skills, this proved difficult. I began brainstorming other idea that I could do for the project. I was inspired by another student's short film of Prufrock poems, and I thought that I could make a short film for "Desiderata." Unfortunately, that would have been too time consuming, and I have very little experience with film editing. I finally chose The Great Gatsby because I liked the motifs and the meanings behind them. I started assembling a group of images in photoshop. Later in the process, I decided to make it a 3D collage. I put tiny pieces of cardboard behind the images to make them pop off the paper. In my original photoshop version of my project, I had a string of pearls around the woman's neck. In Michael's Craft Store, I saw pearl stickers. I also purchased artificial daisies. The next day, I glued my project together on a black foam board. I took moths from my mother's collection and stuck a needle through the board. Although my project is not what I originally had in mind, I am pleased with the end result.

My project symbolizes Gatsby's journey as a romantic quester who struggles against time. The background is the Chicago Tribune, where Gatsby searches for news of Daisy. A newspaper is also the place that Mr. Gatz hears that his song had died. Like Mr. Kurtz in Heart of Darkness, Gatsby is a romantic quester, one who is committed to an idea until the end and pursues the idea. I included "dream a little dream of me" over the woman's face because being with Daisy is not only his dream but his life. The "until death" symbolizes Gatsby's undying hope, even on the day of his death. His
