My “Odyssey”
The Odyssey is a famous epic poem written by Homer about a man named Odysseus and his quest to return home from the Trojan war. Throughout his quest, Odysseus faces many trials and tribulations that test his strength, cunning, and determination. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines an odyssey as “a series of experiences that give knowledge or understanding to someone.” You could say that the journey Odysseus and his crew went on was an odyssey; considering how much Odysseus learned from being away for over twenty years. At the age of fourteen, I have yet to experience any true “odysseys,” however, I have had several times thus far in my life that the definition of an odyssey applies to. Specifically, my journey into the high school.

Everything was so different from the middle school. But, For the most part the first week went well. I only went into the wrong classrooms three times, I did all of my homework, and it seemed that all of my teachers were very nice.
However, by week two things started to take a bit of a turn. Suddenly all of my classes were assigning more work, I had important tests coming up, and I still wasn’t used to the school at all. This caused me to have some major anxiety. Plus, I was up until midnight every night with homework, which didn’t make my condition any better. Because of this my grades started to take a dip- small at first but more soon after. I remember I had a mental breakdown in math class when I got a pop quiz back and had gotten a 79. That was pretty rough. By week four I had B’s and C’s in mostly every class, which may not sound bad to most people, but I set my standards very, very
