4. How well did you meet your individual food recommendations (food groups, amounts, variety) without and with the Sample Meal Plan?
My individual food recommendation without the Sample Meal Plan do not always meet the 5 My Plate categories. Also, I do not normally eat 5 times a day like the Sample Meal Plan recommends. However, with the recommended Sample Meal Plan, I was able to follow all the portions sizes and eat three meals with the two snacks because I wanted to actually see if I was able to go through with the meal plan. Normally, don’t eat a lot and I try to make healthier food choices on a daily bases, which is why it wasn’t hard for me to follow the meal plan. The time where I was most hungry was between the first snack after breakfast and lunch. I noticed that my stomach was literally growling. Once I had my lunch, I felt energized and happy again. I was ready to go to work with a positive mindset. Since I work at a restaurant, I was able to take my food with me and get some food there that follows the meal plan. Once I had dinner, I felt satisfied and I felt good that I did not over eat the entire day. Additionally, every time I would eat I wouldn’t do anything else but eat. Normally, I always look at the nutrition label on stuff that I eat to mainly see how much sugar something has. In addition, I have been trying to eat less for about three months just because I don’t want to gain any more weight, so I already didn’t eat a lot before doing the meal plan. However, with the meal plan I did get to eat foods that had a lot more of the nutrients that my body and mind needed. Therefore, I did feel a lot more energized and I was about to focus more on the activities I was doing rather than feeling tired and distracted. Also, with the meal plan, I was about to see how much 1 cup of vegetables and rice looks like.
7. What surprised you (good or bad) about your eating habits?
I was surprise that I was able to follow through with the meal plan and also that I felt hungrier during those three days. However, I had an idea that that was going to happen because usually when I eat little meals throughout the day I noticed that I feel hungry all day. Overall, there was nothing bad about this experience.
8. What are the benefits and limitations of using My Plate (opinion) and would you find it helpful when trying to reach a desired (ideal) body
