Socratic Seminar by Derrick Jones Jr 1. I think the person who affected the most change was John Adams. Even though he joined the Sons of Liberty earlier in the beginning of the book he helped Capitan Preston because he was requested from a friend of Prestons’ to help him. On page 17 it states, “Capitan Preston has been arrested, and we are being told he will be charged with murder. It is claimed that he gave the order … that he ordered his men to fire on the citizens.
After all, architects typically constructed the projects to include a diverse possibility of uses, while tenements merely sought to maximize tenants. Bauman et. al. describe the Richard Allen Homes as matching the style of the surrounding North Philadelphia buildings and featuring “a community building, housing management offices, workshops, a nursery, an auditorium, and grassy courts planted with trees and shrubbery” (Bauman et. al. 274).
To be honest, when we were first told we had to do a book report I immediately started to dread it. I continued to put off the assignment until the last month of the term. I chose to read Mark Sanborn’s, “The Fred Factor: How Passion in Your Work and Life Can Turn the Ordinary into the Extraordinary”, and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed reading this motivating book. The Fred Factor showcases a particularly cheery and helpful postman named Fred.
Robert Ivy has traveled a long and amazingly successful path since graduating from Tulane University. Today, Ivy is the Executive Vice President and CEO of the American Institute of Architects. One of his most notable accomplishments is acting as the Editor in Chief of Architectural Record. During his time with the publication it rose to amazing success which is certainly due to his leadership role with the publication. Certainly, Ivy has received numerous awards during his career.
Harrison Bergeron, everyone was not truly equal. When she asked George does he want to rest, he would have been stronger if he did. Also Harrison Bergerson isn’t equal to anyone because he is strong enough to break free of his physical handicaps. On page 3 Hazel states,”I don’t care if you’re not equal to me for a while.” Harrison is different because on page 5 the ballerina states, “ He is a genius and an athlete, is under-handicapped, and should be regarded as extremely dangerous.”
2081 What do you think the author of Harrison Bergeron (2081) was trying to say to his readers? What was the point of the story? What would happen if everyone was finally equal? Would Society be better?
Irvin’s viewpoint of Clive Bell’s statement is of interest. Per Irvin, “…a work with aesthetic value automatically has positive moral interest” (1.11). In response to Bell, a thought-provoking question is immediately raised. How can a piece of work with aesthetic value automatically have positive moral value? Do people not consider, for example, the true meaning or language behind the piece of work?
David Stern’s Strategy In the 1984 NBA (National Basketball Association) All-Star Game, there was a combined 1 player out of the two 12-man rosters that was born outside of the United States. That was pretty much the norm for the NBA back then. However, if you fast forward 38 years to the 2022 NBA All-Star Game, there was a record-setting 12 international players (“NBA All-Star"). It was not that the internationally born players in the league just got that much better over that time span, moreover, it was the fact that there were so many more in the league comparatively.
‘’The responsible for much of the reconstruction were the architects of the Chicago School; some of the most prominent architects were L. Henry Sullivan and William LeBaron Jenney. These architects considered almost visionaries applied to architecture engineering principles and managed to raise the first skyscraper replacing the traditional wooden structures and brick by frames of cement. ’’ After the fire a larger Chicago emerged. Today, Chicago is a culturally diverse and dynamic city, and an international center for business and leisure due in part to the availability of the city through transportation.
His art challenges prejudices and reveal a diverse demographic of people with varying cultures and a tradition of social engagement (Builder
A short story "The Bell-Tower" written by Herman Melville tells about the architect Bannadonna, who is building a tower with a bell for the city. Bannadonna is an ingenious architect who does not count on human sacrifices, extolling his creations over the rest. In this story, the author sought to show the image of a man of art, for which the recognition of his genius is the principal goal. One of the themes that the author raises in "The Bell-Tower" is the relationship between a man of art and his creation.
My Philosophy Everyone has their own personal leadership philosophy to describe their beliefs and values. Peter Northouse describes the philosophy of leadership as an unique set of beliefs and attitudes about the nature of people and work (Northouse 83). Each person has something that motivates them to achieve his or her goal. As a result, they create a set guideline and/or timeline of how they plan to reach the set goal.
coaching philosophy is the ethics and values which shape a coach’s behavior whilst performing his/her coaching duties. These can be very different for different coaches, and can/will even change for individual coaches when their coaching context changes. Whilst coaches will bring their own morals and principles to the role, they must also consider the requirements of those being coached/those employing the coach, as these values may be tangential to their own beliefs. If the values that underpin each of the stakeholders’ understandings of the role of the coach and of the purpose of the activity are significantly different the relationship may become too strained to be beneficial. An alternative coach may be sought in this case since it
The Architect working on a project is not only responsible for the design but is also expected to work as a link between different parties in involved in the process, most importantly the client and others for successful outcomes and to achieve client’s satisfaction in a project. With so many factors affecting the process, Architects find it difficult to explain the nature of their professional activities and their deliverables for successful project (Bali, 2009). Also, success can be viewed in different ways whereby what one perceives as a successful project outcome may be viewed quite differently by the next. A client’s judgement of a success may often be different to the architect.
Utilizing that knowledge in architectural and urban design can guide architecture towards a more humane experience.
