Roark maintains his moral virtues by never accepting conformity or giving into the pressure of society. For a long time he struggled to get commissions because people did not like his design style. He faced unemployment and destitution, but he was never unhappy. He did not become bitter because while he might lose superficial material items, he will never lose his personal satisfaction that he never betrayed himself. He continues to pursue his dream by never giving up on his designs and his skills, despite what others may say because “[He’s] never concerned with [his] clients, only with their architectural requirements” (Rand 578).
