The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is an organization that was developed to guarantee student-athletes safety from being exploited and endangered. The NCAA’s main objective was to establish and enforce specific guidelines and standards of conduct with the ability to modify or change the regulations when an issue arises. The NCCA considers ethical conduct a fundamental element to college football programs and hold student-athletes to high standards of sportsmanship, integrity, respect, and responsibility. According to Howard and Crompton (2014) the recession of 2007-2009 had a substantial impact on the sports industry across all levels. Professional sports are challenged with providing affordable tickets to games as “total attendance dropped for three of the four major leagues from 2007 to 2011” (p. 9). When it comes to domestic violence and sports team’s players, the sports team does have an ethical responsibility to decide the player’s fate. The sports teams are put in an ethical dilemma as to whether it’d be better for the team to keep a player despite what they did or just lose them. This can be seen in the MLB right now with the Yankees, the Dodgers, and Aroldis Chapman. Chapman “has been the subject of domestic violence allegations” and so “the Dodgers reportedly passed on such a trade because of the allegations.” The Yankees did the opposite and acquired Chapman because of his record breaking 105 mph fastball.

Creating a coaching culture is how a coach engages and develops their client to increase performance either individually, as a team or part of an organisation that all share the same values. The differences between organisational frameworks are that it is specific to the role within the organisation. The law requires for equal opportunities and diversity, and that the coach should keep appropriate and accurate records of their work with clients and ensure they remain confidential, are stored securely, and comply with the data protection and privacy legislation. The reading this week is by Mike Davis, and is titled Planet of Slums. Mike Davis creates an argument on how slums are a worldly issue that is spreading. Davis first begins his argument with statistics based on the monumental increase of population in all countries across the globe. He also uses examples of the increase of hypercities and megacities due to intensified urbanization in Mexico-city, Seoul-Injon, and New York. In the realm of sports psychology, there are two main theories of how coaching influences motivation, the Behavioral Approach to Coaching (BAC) and the Self-Determination Theory (SDT). Both theories work in different ways in order to increase motivation and produce desired behaviors from athletes. The Behavioral Approach to Coaching utilizes operant conditioning to shape desired behaviors. Operant conditioning concerns the relationship between three events, called contingencies.
