Yes, the company choose methods for reducing their costs by eliminating several of their employees’ benefits while burdening them with a massive amount or responsibly. Based on the actions taken, the burden was solely placed on the company’s workers without the company sacrificing anything in return. For instance, the company’s actions resulted in the employees losing one week’s worth of pay and made them responsible for the fees relating to their wellness program and airfare. From a leadership perspective, I would first try to identify other sources of potential revenue while eliminating unnecessary costs that are unrelated to the workers. What was the “end” in the case and what was the “means”? That is, what was the change the company wanted to make and what steps did they take to make the change? Did the end justify the means? During this situation, the “end” refers to the company avoiding bankruptcy. Therefore, the company eliminate their employees’ benefits and pay, which acted as the “means” to ensure this “end”.
