In some novels, certain characters have a stronger bond with each other than others. They spend time together for the majority of the time or have more links throughout the story. A good example of this would be the characters from “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” by Mark Twain, Huck and Jim. Both Huck and Jim come from Southern United States and the story took place before the CIvil War. In the beginning Huck Thought of Jim as property because Jim was a slave, but throughout the novel Huck grows closer to Jim. At the end of the novel his actions show him to be sympathetic. Jim is property, but also somewhat independent, intelligent, and compassionate. Jim is a loyal and noble adult that is a good example for Huck, his father wasn’t. Huck and Jim have lived through different experiences and Huck is still learning a lot. The two character’s personalities are different, but at the end of the day they are aiming towards the same goal, which is to set JIm free. The second set of characters, Hamlet and Horatio, have different personalities from each other and also from the first set of characters. Horatio is calm and reasonable. Each character dealt with different situations in the same setting and brought them together to deal with the same situations. Huck and Jim are both unhappy with how their society thinks, they decide to leave. With different destinations in mind, but same decision. Hamlet is affected by the death of his father and the suspicion that his death was a murder. Hamlet leaves school to attend his father’s funeral and finds out his mother remarried his father’s brother. The Uncle, which is also the new king is suspected to have killed his dad. Later, the ghost confirms the murder. Horatio cares so much about Hamlet that he considers suicide when Hamlet dies. The set of characters are brought together by what they are going through.
