Liesel Meminger, otherwise known as the book thief, is a foster child who lives during World War ll. Everything started at her brother's burial where she finds a The Gravedigger's Handbook. Max Vandenburg has always loved to fight and he always will. He’s fought Walter, Hitler, and all the other Nazis in the building. The last two being visions of course. He visions the fight with the Fuhrer in the basement of the Hubermann's on Himmel Street. Having Max there is a huge gamble if others found out they would be killed. The list of gambles is explained in the book as a seven-sided die. The seven-sided die is the consequence of hiding a Jew. As he lives in the basement he bonds with Liesel and she gives him hope. Max is a jew fighting for his life in hiding, training so when the Nazis walk down the stairs he’ll be ready to fight.

She stole from fires book burnings, the mayor’s library, and farms. The first time she stole was after her brother's burial, while going to the Hubermann’s, where she found the Gravedigger’s Handbook. She loved to read and when she finished reading The Gravedigger’s Handbook, The Lighthouse, and Faust the Dog she stole on Hitler’s birthday at the book burning. When she stole from the book burning the mayor’s wife witnessed the crime. Later while delivering laundry, that Rosa Hubermann’s did for money, to the mayor’s house she let Liesel read in her library. As the war goes on Rosa services are terminated. But when the mayor’s wife fires Rosa she give Liesel an book called the Whistler. Liesel doesn’t want to take the but she wants to steal it. With Rudy, her best friend, she goes into the house steals the book and Rudy steals food. In between the the book burning and the firing of Rosa Liesel and Rudy stole food from
