The artwork Untitled: Four Etchings by Glenn Ligon contains an immense amount of depth and symbolism using Zora Neale Hurston’s famous depiction of her relationship with racism. In his piece, Ligon utilizes a unique style of texture through his portrayal of the noteworthy phrase “ I do not always feel colored… ... I feel most colored when I am thrown against a sharp white background,” (Hurston). As one looks from the top of the image down, there is an extremely noticeable transition in the texture of the words from clear, smooth letters into letters that are blurry and smeared.
I love this beautiful photo of our Pirate brother and sister, David and Mercy Maysonet. It was taken at the recent AHS Class of 1979 Atlantic City Mini Reunion. (Still trying to find out who was the photographer to give him/her credit). Words cannot express how wonderful it was to see them and spend time
After the ride we got something to eat. We had all waited a few minutes to go on the next ride. After the few minutes my brother went in a maze that was a walking Dead maze.
We decided to leave, but before that we wanted to take a picture at the sketch picture booth. The booth bench could only fit two people and there were 5 of us, yet we made it work. My sister, cousin and I squeezed onto the bench, while the kids sat on our laps. All of us were making funny faces, as the two year old looked confused. You could say the picture really depicted our day.
Alright, most of you don’t know me so you wouldn’t know that I’m what you call a church girl. So any church activities, events, programs, I’m probably going to be there. So I was involved in this particular ministry where our founder, Mrs. Christie, took us to the beach every summer. As usual this particular trip started pretty good. Everyone was in good spirits just chillin and enjoying ourselves and we always stayed in a nice hotel with nice rooms.
Marble statue of a Bearded Hercules While visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art, my attention was caught by the Statue of a bearded Hercules. It is unknown who made this sculpture. This Roman copy of the Greek original was made in 68-98 A.D. during the Early Imperial Flavian period from marble and island. The color of the statue is white with a tint of yellow. It is an over-life-sized sculpture - 94.75 inches in height.
The Mausoleum and Terracotta army are one the biggest pieces of Funerary art ever created. Envisioned by Qin Shi Huang to be his final resting place, these structures were designed to follow him into the after life. Qin was born in 260 BC, was given the throne when he was thirteen and took power at the age of forty. “Construction of the tomb began in 246 BC, twenty six years later the construction of the terracotta army began” . The tomb and warriors were finished eleven later, followed the emperor’s death in 210 BC.
Monuments that are constructed in order to give commendation to people, places, or events are located all over the globe. It is very possible for someone to find a few in their very own town. Although there may be negative controversy on certain monuments, many throughout the world have changed individual’s lives tremendously in a beneficial way. One monument in particular has stood tall through it all and has had so much positive effect on millions of people from the beginning of time. One hundred and thirty years later this monument continues to impact people’s lives from all over the world.
The Inca empire lasted for over 100 years, and in all of its glory its people were able to make great objects. Ranging from massive temples for their gods, to small llama shaped statues. The Gold llama is made out of pure gold with a width of 1 centimeter, and a width of 6.3 centimeters. The Gold llama was most likely used by the Inca as sacrifice to their gods. The statue was made sometime in the years 1400-1550, and was found in a Inca tomb.
The Bust of Nefertiti is view as one of the most beautiful piece of art, admittedly, this piece represents femininity, beauty of the Egyptian culture, and the true power of women. Nefertiti was viewed as one of the most power women in all of Egypt, however; some would question if she was truly Egyptian. She is said to be a foreigner, but this is highly unlikely because most foreigners don’t become consorts. Nefertiti shows elegance in the Egyptian community and also in her name, which means “A Beautiful Woman has come”. As you see in this picture the artist, Thutmose, caught every inch of her beauty and confidence in this sculpture.
Die Kapuzinergruft, German for ‘The Capuchin Crypt’ describes the traditional burial ceremonies of the Imperial Hapsburgs. In his 1938 novel of the same name, author Joseph Roth describes the parallel symbolic death and burial of an Empire in the waning days of the Habsburg Monarchy. The Overlook Press published an English translation by John Hoare in 1984; The Emperor’s Tomb describes the life of a Slovenian national during the waning days of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and through this use of a minority, he conveys the struggle for self identity that a great many states and countries went through as a result of their dissolutions at the end of the First World War. At the beginning of the book, Franz Ferdinand Trotta, or Herr Trotta, as he is referred to in much of the book, is a strong and decisive man.
Then we took our picture, both with giant smiles on our faces, mine the larger of the two. Finally we were once again on the move to Ariel's Grotto. Everywhere I turned I saw children like me, fascinated with everything around them. Once we found our way to the Grotto, I noticed a group of fountains that shot up from inside the ground.
In the story Grandpa & the statue the recurring theme is that people take the statue of liberty for granted we see this theme represented in the character of grandpa monaghan throughout the play the grandpa takes the stance that the statue of was a waste of money and did not represent liberty in fact he believed it did represent anything grandpa monaghan eventually convinced child monaghan of his beliefs caused him to also not believe in the statue of liberty this sentiment of the statue of liberty not being much but a big statue in the middle of the water is something that is shared by many now in recent years simply because we never see how it truly benefits others. Now more than ever in 2017 are we aware and tuned into our political
I got my dad to take a picture of me holding the shark then after that I threw it back in the water. After I threw the shark back we decided to go back to the beach house. When we got back to the beach house we didn’t do much we just chilled out for the last night because we had to leave the next day around
