The hula hoop has been around for centuries, the toy itself is older than most religions. If you traveled back in time you would find Egyptian children playing with dried grapevine hoops (people.howstuffworks). The actual term “hula hoop” didn’t emerge until the 20th century. The hula hoop is a very versatile toy, you can throw them, roll them, jump them and sling them around your body. Through the years the use of the hula hoop has changed some, but it is still a favorite toy to the young and to the old. The hula hoop has not only a rich history, it also has many uses that range from toys to health fitness. The hula hoop is an ancient invention, no modern company and no single inventor can claim they invented the hula hoop (inventor.about). Hula hoop have been made using every form of material possible. Older hula hoops have been made from metal, wood, bamboo, grasses, and even vines (inventor.about). The popularity was short-lived, within a couple months, the uses had moved on to the next fad toy. The hula hoop never faded away completely and still is sold today (history). There are even records Ripley’s Believe It or Not for the hula hoop. One record is that two people spun the world's biggest hula hoop (being 13 feet) around three times. The world record time for hula hoop spinning is 90 hours (history). Also people begin to use the hula hoop as a form of exercise. Studies show that you can lose up to 1.3 from your waist just by using the hula hoop with a weighted hoop (magnolia).
