Human Resource Management: Key Women Issues
There are three critical women issues that human resource managers may come across in the workplace: pregnancy discrimination, pay equality, and the glass ceiling. It’s important that human resource managers should not only maximize employee’s performance but should also recognize that employees have rights that are protected under federal and state laws. Pregnancy discrimination, pay equality, and the glass ceiling are critical issues that should be recognized and prevented. It is important that employer prevent discrimination from ever taking place and take proper steps to promote productivity, adaptability and effectiveness within the workplace.

It’s up to the employer to ensure that everyone is paid equally for the work that they do. Employees should be paid based on their job content and not their job title. Employees that are being paid less than others for any reason are protected under the Equal Pay Act. The Equal Pay act covers “salary, overtime pay, bonuses, stock options, profit sharing and bonus plans, life insurance, vacation and holiday pay, cleaning or gasoline allowances, hotel accommodations, reimbursement for travel expenses, and benefits” (Equal Pay, 2017). By providing the proper training and education to all employee’s human resource managers can make sure that there is no discrimination of any form taking place within the workplace. Human resource managers could also prevent discrimination by promoting an educational team work where everyone can learn respects one another, making sure that employees feel valued and are compensated or provided benefits for their hard work. If a company decides to not recognize and prevent these key women issues it could lead to lawsuits costing the company up to millions of dollars and the company could lose their current employees, consumers and prospective
