Title Some people will go to great lengths to get home safely. They will sacrifice muchPeople will do everything so that they can to survive, but how much are they willing to sacrifice to live?. When people are put into extreme situations, they are forced to do everything necessary to survive. In the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, Rainsford is stranded in the middle of the Caribbean on Ship-Trap Island. On the island, Rainsford is forced to play General Zaroff’s game.
In Richard Connell’s “The Most Dangerous Game,” the setting is a crucial aspect of making the plot believable. For example, the false channel leading to the island is so vital to the plot because it makes the story plausible. General Zaroff intrigues Rainsford by showing him the brilliantly gleaming lights that “‘indicate a channel . . . where there’s none’” (8).
Have you ever been hunted or wondered what it would be like to be hunted, well Richard Connell the author of The Most Dangerous Game has exercised this idea into a short story. Rainsfords external conflict with zaroff, and his view on animals and how they change throughout the story, and being hunted by zaroff, then the change of his view on animals reveal that humans are more like animals than we realize. Throughout the story Rainsford’s understanding about how animals feel changes. Rainsford’s initial of view animals is that they do not feel anything and that they only know how to survive.
Instead of being fearful and wanting to give up, Rainsford became zealous; a fearless survivor. “ Twenty feet below him the sea rumbled and hissed. Rainsford hesitated. He heard the hounds. Then he leapt far out into the sea.”
“You were surprised that I recognized your name, You see, I read all books on hunting published in English, French, and Russian. ”(p.4, Richard Connell) This use of direct characterization shows that Rainsford is a smart, educated man, considering he has written a known book about hunting. In the story Rainsford also says “Thank you, I’m a hunter, not a murderer. ”(p.6, Richard Connell)
Richard Connell once quoted, “There is no greater bore than perfection.” This exemplified perfection is something many people lust for, but can’t understand. Imperfections are what make people different from one another but, without imperfections, humans would be boring. Similarly, in Connell’s, “The Most Dangerous Game,” the antagonist, Zaroff, mentions being perfect is boring. As if he is referring to himself, he’s saying he’s a perfect hunter, but grows bored hunting animals, so he’s stepping up the game and starting to hunt humans instead.
In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game,” Richard Connell uses irony to show the theme of the hunter becoming the hunted . Sanger Rainsford is a big game hunter from New York City who believes that animals deserve no remorse when being hunted. When discussing whether it is right to hunt jaguars, Rainsford says, “The world is made up of two classes- the hunters and the huntees” (Connell 1). Rainsford shows little mercy for the lives of hunted animals and doesn’t care to think what it is like to be hunted. Later in the story, Rainsford meets General Zaroff and they are discussing their favorite game to hunt.
Firstly, Connell describes an internal conflict within Rainsford. The conflict is between Rainsford and his sanity. For example, when Rainsford is hiding from General

Then he looked around the island for people on the island so he could get food and water but then he got caught up with in a hunting game then survived the hunting game.

“Hunting” Humans In “The Most Dangerous Game” written by Richard Connell, the author explores the theme of the morality of hunting and the consequences of crossing those boundaries through the character of General Zaroff. In “The Most Dangerous Game” Rainsford finds himself on an island after accidentally falling overboard, on this island while searching for signs of civilization he encounters General Zaroff and his companion. After an introduction, he is invited in for dinner with the General. During this dinner, Zaroff emphasizes the need for a new “animal” in hunting. When expressing his boredom with animals, he heavily hints at the idea of hunting humans, although he refers to them as “animals”.
The narrator says, “Rainsford held his breath. The general’s eye had left the ground and were traveling inch by inch up the tree. Rainsford froze there, every muscle tensed for a spring”(13). Rainsford is scared to death when the general is hunting him because this is a real life or death situation. General Zaroff is pulling tricks on Rainsford to try to get him to come down from the tree.
“The Most Dangerous Game,” a short story by Richard Connell, dives into the discussion over whether animals have feelings, and if it is fine for them to be hunted for a human’s own entertainment. The main protagonist, Sanger Rainsford, an American author and hunter, and the antagonist, General Zaroff, a hunter as-well, have similar views in the concept of dominance and killing animals for their own pleasure. Throughout the events of the story, both characters, ironically, switch between being the ‘hunter’ and ‘huntee’ through the development of the story, and it explores the different strategies, thoughts, and feelings they experience in their situations. The theme of “The Most Dangerous Game” concentrates on the human tendency for superiority and power under any circumstance, no matter how inhumane. The theme is demonstrated through the beliefs and actions of the characters, along with the conception of the game.

Main part The series is about the FBI consultant Will Graham, who together with Jack Crawford and his team hunts down serial killers, especially the Chesapeake ripper. Will Graham have a special ability to have pure empathy and a vivid imagination, which grants him the ability to understand every type of murderers. The downside with these abilities is he slowly becomes frenzied. Throughout season one, Will creates a strong bond with the psychologist Hannibal Lecter.
