In 1945, Tobias Wolff wrote “Hunters in the Snow”. In this story, three men named Kenny, Frank, and Tub joined together as old friends and went on a deer hunting trip in the brutal winter of Spokane, Washington. With Tub being on the chubby side he instantly becomes the weak link of the group, while Kenny and Frank deal with problems psychologically. Frank is trying to justify that leaving his wife and talking to his kid’s babysitter is okay and Kenny is putting on a tough guy act to cover up who knows what. The deceptions that the men are giving off to one another changes their life’s forever. Tobias Wolff is connected to “Hunters in the Snow” because it shows what life was like for him at that current time. He chose the characters because at that time Zen Buddhism was being practiced and many of the stories that he wrote revolved around characters facing their problems. …show more content…

In the story, all the characters had something going on that they refused to face. Tub tried to cover up the fact that he had a weight problem by telling Frank and Kenny that it was his glands that is causing him to gain so much weight. Frank has the erg to leave his wife for the kid’s babysitter saying “… a hundred years ago she’d had been an old maid by that age” (p.174). In his mind he feels like it is okay to talk to a fifteen year old girl because back in the days it was normal when truly he is a pedophile. Kenny on the other hand, shows no signs of problems but feels the need to use the insecurities of others to make him feel better about
