Lab Report for the Seawater Chemistry Lab
1) The Strength of the Hydrogen Bonds Formed by Water Molecules
a) Are the bonds formed by water molecules stronger or weaker than the bonds between molecules of other liquids?
Hydrogen bonds formed in water are stronger than those of other liquids.
b) What evidence have you seen that supports your belief? Describe observations from at least two different lab experiments. Hydrogen bonds in water are very strong because water has strong intermolecular forces.
c) Explain how or why this observational evidence supports your belief. In other words, discuss how the strength of the bonds formed by water molecules, other molecules, and atoms produced your observations.
Hydrogen bonds formed by water molecules are stronger than those of liquids such as ethanol because water has strong …show more content…

This is because when water comes into contact with heat, its molecules move apart due to the kinetic energy present, resulting into the stretching of the hydrogen bonds hence it becoming less dense while in cold water there is no presence of kinetic energy therefore, molecules are tight & hydrogen bonds compact. From the above it can be concluded that bonds in warm water are weak as compared to those in cold water.
b) Does observing more evaporation from liquid A than liquid B suggest that the bonds between the molecules of liquid A are strong or weak compared to the bonds between the molecules of liquid B? Why? As part of your answer, discuss how molecules of gases like water vapor differ from molecules of liquids.
Observing more evaporation in liquid A as compared to B suggest that the bonds in liquid A are less strong than those of B because the ability to move fast is promoted by when the bonds between a substance are less compact i.e. a gas intermolecular bonds are less strong that the intermolecular bonds that make up a liquid.
c) Can cold water
